A family of seven including three children were arrested in a drug- related raid at Kampung Pengkalan Batu here.
During the raid in the wee hours by five policemen including two officers from Mersing narcotics department team on Friday, police seized a total of RM19,000 worth of heroin weighing 1.084kg.
Mersing OCPD Deputy Supt M. Kumar said that all suspects were sleeping during the 2am raid.
"The heroin was found in three transparent packets in a room at the premise and believed to be distributed to drug dealers and drug addicts around the district.
DSP Kumar said that the three children - aged three months, two years and nine years have been handed over to their aunties on the same day after the raid.
The three children are daughters of two of the suspects.
"The male suspects will be remanded between June 24 until 30, while the two females who are mother and daughter will have their remand extended from June 24 until a new date given by the Kota Tinggi Magistrate court here," said DSP Kumar.
He added that one of the suspects, a 28-year-old man, tested positive for morphine. He has a criminal record in a narcotics-related case.
"We believe that one of them is a pusher who has been doing this illegal activity around the district for the past two months.
He said that following a tip off by members of the public, the department had been carrying out surveillance at the area for about a week.
"The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs 1952," he said adding that they are in the midst of identifying the main supplier for the drugs seized.
