Fracas in Mersing as crowd overturns cars after suspected burglars beaten up

Three men were beaten up following an attempted break-in at a karaoke outlet in Taman Fajar, Endau here, resulting in a commotion where residents overturned three cars in anger.

The problem started when a group of five men caught and beat up the three suspects who had tried to break into the outlet on Friday night.

They beat up the suspected burglars with wooden sticks causing them to suffer injury.

However, the incident did not stop there, as shortly after police arrived and arrested all eight men, residents from the suspects' housing area found out about the three having been beaten up.

A crowd of angry residents then showed up and waited outside the police station in protest of the incident.

Mersing OCPD Deputy Supt Cyril Edward Nuing said the large group then went to the karaoke outlet at around 11.30pm and damaged and overturned three cars that were parked outside the premises.

"Police officers arrived at the scene again shortly after that to disperse the crowd and stop the commotion.

"We have identified those involved and two investigation papers have been opened on the case," he said.
