Swiss man found hanged in Mersing

A man from Switzerland was found hanged at a house in Kampung Tenglu Laut near here this morning.

Mersing police chief Superintendent Cyril Edward Nuing said in the 9am incident, the victim, Nicola Simone, 59, whose occupation is unknown, was already dead when the police found him.

“A man in his 40s came to Mersing police headquarters and informed us about his tenant, a Swiss, who did not answer the door after several calls.

“Acting on the information, a team from the Criminal Investigation Department was rushed to the scene.

“They broke down the door and found a man inside hanged from a rope which was tied on the beam in between the bedroom and the kitchen,” he said, adding that the victim’s belongings, including wallet, cash and mobile phone were still there.

According to a witness, the victim rented the place about three months ago and he was last seen yesterday evening.

“The body has been sent to Mersing Hospital for a post-mortem. The cause of death is still unknown and police is still investigating the case,” Cyril Edward said.
