Council to redevelop Endau bus and taxi station
A bus and taxi station in Endau, here, which was built more than 40 years ago will be redeveloped and renamed Terminal Bas Sejahtera dan Pasar Sejahtera.
The station, which is in a dilapidated state, covers an area of 0.5ha. There are some 40 traders here.
The proposal for the redevelopment came from the Mersing District Council.
The council will carry out the project after completing a study on location suitability, cost and design.
The terminal, which will have an open concept, will be funded by the Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Ministry.
Deputy minister Datuk Halimah Mohamed Sadique said the project would cater to the needs of local folk.
"The redevelopment plans are not limited to infrastructure alone.
"The activities and usage will also taken into consideration," she said.
"We plan to change the current bus station and market concept to an open concept," she said, adding that this would allow more small traders to set up business here.
She said the redevelopment of the bus terminal would include environmental aspects, aeration and the drainage and irrigation system, as well as arrangement of the lots for traders to conduct their businesses.
