Three held for thefts of four-wheel drives

Three men, who are suspected to be members of a syndicate specialising in stealing four-wheel drives, were arrested recently.

The suspects, all aged 27, were believed to be responsible for the thefts of 16 vehicles reported in the district.

Also recovered upon the arrests of the suspects were four four-wheel drives which were reported stolen.

Johor police chief Datuk Mokhtar Shariff said suspects' modus operandi was to steal the vehicles from one state and move them to states in the east coast before transporting them to neighbouring countries on rural roads.

Mokhtar urged the public to be wary of anyone who wants to dispose of vehicles below the market price to conduct thorough checks, or they may find themselves in possession of stolen goods.

兴楼海滩现男腐尸‧警方：疑是外国人

兴楼双溪孟光（Sungai Mengkuang）海滩日前发现一具男性腐尸，警方初步怀疑死者是外国人。

丰盛港警区主任朱基菲里说，警方初步研判死者的年龄介於20至50岁，不过死者身上没有证明文件，目前尚无法確定死者身份。

他说，警方根据死者身上的文身图案，猜测死者可能是泰国人或外国人；警方也相信死者已死亡逾3天，因为尸体不但发出臭味，还爬满蛆虫。

他希望知情者提供线报，並吁请家中有失踪者的民眾联络警方。

另一方面，根据居民阿兹米（44岁）的说法，一名妇女於本月29日下午5时15分左右，在上述海滩闲逛时，看到远处有一个物体被衝上海滩。

他表示，该名妇女於是上前察看，赫然惊见有关物体竟是一具尸体，对方於是向警方投报。

此外，丰盛港消防与拯救局接获投报后，派出以胡先莫哈末为首的6人队伍，到上述海滩协助清理现场，以运往医院殮尸房解剖。

丰盛港警方瓦解一个偷车匪党，不但起获4辆报失的四轮驱动车，也逮捕了3名涉案巫裔男子。

不过，另有一名涉案男子突破警网逃逸，目前已遭警方通缉。

丰盛港警区主任朱菲基里今午在新闻发佈会上说，在起获的4辆四轮驱动车中，3辆是Mitsubishi Storm，1辆Hilux；3名被扣的嫌犯的年龄分別是20岁、38岁及50岁。

他今午是在该警区刑事调查组主任阿都阿兹、公共秩序及交通主任莫默哈末杰菲里等人的陪同下，向媒体记者发表上述消息。

他表示，交警是於本月26日下午1时许，在丰盛港市区通往兴楼联邦大道14公里处，检查来往车辆时，发现4辆路过的四驱车的司机行色可疑。

他说：“警员在检查时，怀疑有关四驱车是报失车辆，於是扣留有关车辆及3名司机；另一名后来的司机，则弃车逃入附近森林，並逃去无踪。”

他表示，警方过后証明上述车辆为报失车辆，警方也怀疑涉案男子，把这些车辆驾往泰南兰道班央以供出售；每辆旧四驱车的售价目前介於4万5千令吉。

他说，警方將援引刑事法典379A（偷车）条文，將嫌犯控上庭；若罪名成立，他们將被判监禁7年。
