Three held for thefts of four-wheel drives
Three men, who are suspected to be members of a syndicate specialising in stealing four-wheel drives, were arrested recently.
The suspects, all aged 27, were believed to be responsible for the thefts of 16 vehicles reported in the district.
Also recovered upon the arrests of the suspects were four four-wheel drives which were reported stolen.
Johor police chief Datuk Mokhtar Shariff said suspects' modus operandi was to steal the vehicles from one state and move them to states in the east coast before transporting them to neighbouring countries on rural roads.
Mokhtar urged the public to be wary of anyone who wants to dispose of vehicles below the market price to conduct thorough checks, or they may find themselves in possession of stolen goods.

兴楼海滩现男腐尸‧警方：疑是外国人
兴楼双溪孟光（Sungai Mengkuang）海滩日前发现一具男性腐尸，警方初步怀疑死者是外国人。

丰盛港警区主任朱基菲里说，警方初步研判死者的年龄介於20至50岁，不过死者身上没有证明文件，目前尚无法確定死者身份。
他说，警方根据死者身上的文身图案，猜测死者可能是泰国人或外国人；警方也相信死者已死亡逾3天，因为尸体不但发出臭味，还爬满蛆虫。
他希望知情者提供线报，並吁请家中有失踪者的民眾联络警方。
另一方面，根据居民阿兹米（44岁）的说法，一名妇女於本月29日下午5时15分左右，在上述海滩闲逛时，看到远处有一个物体被衝上海滩。
他表示，该名妇女於是上前察看，赫然惊见有关物体竟是一具尸体，对方於是向警方投报。
此外，丰盛港消防与拯救局接获投报后，派出以胡先莫哈末为首的6人队伍，到上述海滩协助清理现场，以运往医院殮尸房解剖。

丰盛港警方瓦解偷车党‧起4四驱车扣3人
丰盛港警方瓦解一个偷车匪党，不但起获4辆报失的四轮驱动车，也逮捕了3名涉案巫裔男子。

不过，另有一名涉案男子突破警网逃逸，目前已遭警方通缉。
丰盛港警区主任朱菲基里今午在新闻发佈会上说，在起获的4辆四轮驱动车中，3辆是Mitsubishi Storm，1辆Hilux；3名被扣的嫌犯的年龄分別是20岁、38岁及50岁。
他今午是在该警区刑事调查组主任阿都阿兹、公共秩序及交通主任莫默哈末杰菲里等人的陪同下，向媒体记者发表上述消息。
他表示，交警是於本月26日下午1时许，在丰盛港市区通往兴楼联邦大道14公里处，检查来往车辆时，发现4辆路过的四驱车的司机行色可疑。
他说：“警员在检查时，怀疑有关四驱车是报失车辆，於是扣留有关车辆及3名司机；另一名后来的司机，则弃车逃入附近森林，並逃去无踪。”
他表示，警方过后証明上述车辆为报失车辆，警方也怀疑涉案男子，把这些车辆驾往泰南兰道班央以供出售；每辆旧四驱车的售价目前介於4万5千令吉。
他说，警方將援引刑事法典379A（偷车）条文，將嫌犯控上庭；若罪名成立，他们將被判监禁7年。

Islands to draw more tourists
Islands around here are set to be major crowd-pullers among locals and foreign tourists during the Visit Malaysia Year 2014 (VMY2014).
Mersing District Council (MDM) president Zainal Eran said among the favourite tourist destinations of island getaways are Pulau Rawa, Pulau Besar, Pulau Pemanggil, Pulau Aur, Pulau Tengah and Pulau Sibu which are accessible via the Sungai Mersing jetty.
"We are expecting an increase in the number of visitors compared with the 200,000 people recorded last year," he said.
"Throughout last year, there were 68,788 overseas visitors including those from Europe, Japan, Korea and China. The rest were local visitors," he said.
"We will woo the tourists with various promotions as carried out by the government in conjunction with VMY2014," he said.
"MDM has also beautified several places in the district including having a beach cleanup. We believe a pristine, litter-free beach will make tourists feel more welcome," he said.
Zainal said he hoped the locals will play their part in ensuring the cleanliness of tourist spots.
He said MDM has also placed several centralised waste containers for residents living in rural areas outside its jurisdiction.
"With the facilities, it is hoped that the locals will enjoy a better garbage disposal system. Previously, the locals will dispose of garbage by the roadside for the garbage collectors," he said.
He said the new measure will not only eliminate the stench coming from the garbage but also make the area look more appealing.
"MDM will monitor the cleanliness in the city and act against litterbugs," he said, adding that the local council will not compromise with those who show a blatant disregard for the cleanliness of the city.

Cargo boat runs aground on shoal
A cargo boat owner, suffered an estimated loss of RM10,000 after his boat from Pulau Rawa heading to Mersing was stranded on a shoal.
A fisherman, Awang Saadon, 46, who often traversed the area, said the owner then sought help from him and his friends to get the boat off the shallow waters.
"I was informed that the incident happened about a week ago. The skipper had poorly estimated the depth of Kuala Sungai Mersing waters causing his boat to run aground," he said.
Awang said the group was paid to unload all the goods from the stranded boat and bring them to shore.
"We also tried to tow the boat to the nearest jetty during high tide. We made two attempts, both ended in failure," he said.
Awang said after they had unloaded the goods, they fastened empty oil drums around the boat to keep the vessel afloat.
"The effort was in vain as the boat's propeller and tiller were embedded in the sand," he said.
The cargo boat is stranded on the shoal.

强风巨浪无阻往海边沐浴‧兴都教徒“刺身”还愿
强风巨浪无阻兴都教徒涌往海边沐浴洁身还愿，以庆祝一年一度的大宝森节。
数百名信徒隨同“斯里姆鲁甘”神輦，在鼓乐声中从海边开始游行，途经市区主要街道，然后回返位於任罗宏路的庙宇。（图：星洲日报）
丰盛港兴都教信徒今日热烈庆祝大宝森节，虽然近日来海边依然刮起大风，海滩巨浪涛涛，但无阻虔诚的信徒在大清早便涌往市区海滩沐浴洁身，之后齐集在岸边的草地进行一系列的还愿仪式。
今早因许多兴都教徒聚集在海堤草地进行祈福，吸引各族民眾及游客驻足围观，摄影爱好者更在场爭拍信徒“刺身”还愿的情景，使得海边空地挤满人潮。
今年的庆祝仪式仍旧由“斯里苏巴拉马廉兴都庙”负责，庆典分別在早上和晚上进行，信徒早上在海边集合，然后沐浴洁净，並由乩童以各种方式赎罪还愿。
数百信徒隨神輦游行
现场所见，数百名信徒过后隨同“斯里姆鲁甘”神輦，在鼓乐声中从海边开始游行，途经市区主要街道，然后回返位於任罗宏路的庙宇，中午则有聚餐会。
据了解，当天晚上7时左右，信徒將再次齐集在斯里苏巴拉马廉兴都庙，以进行膜拜仪式，膜拜仪式过后，信徒將隨着“斯里姆鲁甘”的神輦由该庙出发，途经市区阿武巴加路及依士迈街，然后前往小丰盛新村各路。
队伍所经之处將会受到兴都教徒及华裔善信设案膜拜，届时有者还会拋椰还愿，將吸引各族市民及游客爭看盛况，庆典预料將至午夜后才会结束.
